I recently discovered thesixtyone.com - a site where artists can upload their music and listeners vote (by assigning hearts) on their favorite songs. The more hearts a song receives, the higher its ranking & closer to the top of the homepage it gets. It’s a great site for independent musicians & bands as I have found a lot of great songs and cannot stop going back. One song in particular was “Shook” by Emancipator, a new-ish DJ that released his album ‘Soon It Will Be Cold Enough’ on 1320 Records last month. Track “Where I Go” features Thao Nguyen (who is GREAT!). Rolling Stone painted it well: “[Emancipator] beautifully mixes hip hop beats with guitar feedback and a delicate piano melody”. Emancipator – Shook

This is probably the appropriate time to discuss how much I love Sigur Ros. I was introduced to the band last winter and immediately picked up ( ) upon recommendation…. Yes, their album does not have a spoken title- just ( ) . The 8-tracks are all untitled as well- Untitled 1, Untitled 2, Untitled 3… you get it. A friend of mine told me about Joey Ryan a while back and while she has been to every single one of his LA shows, I have yet to see him. That will hopefully change this month- as he has residency at Hotel Cafe Thursdays in October with Katie Costello. Above is “Like A Cloak” performed at Hotel Cafe with Sara Bareilles, Javier Dunn and Jay Nash earlier this year. I love this song.

The Dodos are pretty high up there on my list. I am a huge fan of their first record ‘Visiter’ and I’m catching onto their latest ‘Time to Die’. It’s not nearly as percussion heavy as Visiter, but I’m getting used to it…  TheyShootMusic filmed an offstage session of “Acorn Factory” (from ‘Time to Die’) with the band in Greifswalder Straße in Berlin.
